Interesting Notes about Callery Pear:
The ornamental pear was introduced in the U.S. as an attempt to improve fireblight resistance in the common fruit producing pear. Instead the tree was introduced into the landscape trade and caught on fast because it lead to overplanting which lead to invasiveness. The tree is prone to limb breakage caused from high winds and ice and snow storms. Hybrids are introduced to either produce sterile flowers or to improve the wood strength.
