This is a fast-growing tree with very unusual acorns that have green growth on the caps looking like a bad hair day. The acorns provide food for wildlife and are poisonous to humans if eaten before toxins are leached out by boiling. Leaves are distinctive with deep and pointed lobes and remain on the tree into late fall offering no real fall color. Grows well in clay soils.
