Interesting Notes about English Oak:
Surprisingly a non-native tree, this huge tree most resembles the White Oak and is as tall as it is wide creating dense shade. This tree is tolerant of varying soil pH levels. Powdery mildew can be a problem if grown in a climate with high humidity, but there are cultivars available that are resistant. This tree has the potential for a very long life which is good because acorns are generally not produced until the tree is at least 25 years old and not in peak production until the tree is 50 years old. The acorns provide food for wildlife and are poisonous to humans if eaten before toxins are leached out by boiling.
