Interesting Notes about Bee Balm:

Monarda is well-known and popular for its flowers used in bouquets, in gardens and as a means to attract such beneficials as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Some varieties have a susceptibility to a disease called powdery mildew which causes a white, powdery growth to occur on leaves and ultimately may cause leaves to drop. To avoid infection for even those varieties with low susceptibility, plant where they have open air circulation, thin the colony of stems to improve air flow, and avoid overhead watering.
