Tips for Homeowners:

In areas that experience cold temperatures it is necessary to cut this woody shrub to the ground in late winter or early spring to inspire flowers on the new growth.  Even in mild temperatures it is best to cut it back to even out the growth to a nice mounded habit, but this is optional if there are live buds at the ends of the stems.

The flowers on this Bluebeard are darker blue than other varieties and adds a splash of color in the late summer.

Interesting Notes about Bluebeard:

Technically Bluebeard is a shrub, but if in areas where there are harsh winters it is referred to as a sub-shrub because the stems do not survive, only the roots.  New stems will give rise from the roots in the spring and since flowering occurs on new growth the plant will produce beautiful flowers without a pause.  As long as the soil is well-drained and there is full sun there is no stopping the profusion of color.
